In comparison to most large vehicle manufacturers, Tata Motors is a fairly young brand in the car industry. It was established in 1945 as an engineering and locomotive part of the Tata Group, which was established in 1868. Tata Motors entered the car market in 1998 with the Tata Indica – India’s first indigenously designed and manufactured car.
Between 2004 and 2005 Tata Motors acquired the heavy vehicles Unit of Daewoo Motors and the launch of a new mini-truck segment in India (the Tata Ace) Tata. This served to solidify it’s place in the motor vehicle market has become the worlds 18th largest car manufacturing company producing passenger cars, trucks, vans and coaches.
The acquisition of the Land Rover and Jaguar Brands from Ford Motor Company in 2008 made the brand a major player in the car market.The brand has launched its cars in various markets around the globe, from the small innovative passenger car, the Nano, to the rugged Sumo.
