In 1945, two brothers, J.C. Mahindra and K.C. Mahindra joined forces with Ghulam Mohammed and started Mahindra & Mohammed as a steel company in Mumbai.Ghulam Mohammed left the company. Mahindra brothers ignited the company's enduring growth with their decision to manufacture Willys jeeps in Mumbai. The company’s new name? Mahindra & Mahindra, of course. Since 1945, Mahindra has built a company around the core idea that people will succeed if they are just given the opportunity.
Starting in 1945 as a steel trading company, Mahindra entered automotive manufacturing in 1947. Over the years, they have diversified into many new businesses in order to better meet the needs of their customers. Mahindra & Mahindra is a major automobile manufacturer of utility vehicles, passenger cars, pickups, commercial vehicles, and two wheelers. Mahindra has a global presence and its products are exported to several countries.
Now, after 65 years, Mahindra has grown from a humble local outfit to a $15.4 billion corporation employing more than 144,000 people around the world.
