Chrysler South Africa (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Chrysler LLC, sells cars under the brand names Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge. Founded in 1925 by Walter P. Chrysler, Chrysler is the only one of the Detroit 3 automakers to have ever been controlled by a foreign company. Chrysler South Africa also provides its customers with parts and accessories marketed under the Mopar brand name and offers financial services through Chrysler Financial Services. Chrysler became known as the Chrysler Corporation in 1925. Its core brands which it produces are Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, SRT, Fiat, and Mopar vehicles and products.
Within a decade of operation, their leadership and innovation earned them the label of Detroit's "engineering company." Many of Chrysler’s milestones include creating the World's first sport-utility vehicle: 1946 the Jeep CJ-2A, they were the First to put a modern radio in an automobile, the First minivan: 1984, Key-Start Ignition System, and the list is endless. The first indication of changing times at Chrysler came with the 1951 development, and enthusiastic reception, of the authoritative, hemispheric-head V-8 engine.
