SOUTH AFRICA, PRETORIA - In an exciting announcement, Daimler Trucks & Buses Southern Africa (DTBSA) is proud to name Ziyad Gaba as Vice President: Customer Service, Parts and Downstream and Maretha Gerber as Vice President: Sales and Marketing. The DTBSA stalwarts have previously held the helm as Head of FUSO Trucks Southern Africa and Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Southern Africa, respectively. They have each pivoted the brands to new heights and will continue to spearhead innovation and value in their new roles.

These changes are subsequent to the company’s efforts to align with the overall global strategy of Daimler Trucks AG and Daimler Trucks Overseas, and to meet the ever-changing needs of customers.

Maretha Gerber will now take over the responsibility as Vice President: Sales and Marketing for the Mercedes-Benz Trucks, FUSO Trucks, Western Star, Unimog and Fleetboard brands. Ziyad Gaba will take over responsibilities as Vice President: Customer Service, Parts and Downstream for Mercedes-Benz Trucks, FUSO Trucks, Freightliner, Western Star and Unimog. Both functions will report directly to the President and CEO of Daimler Trucks & Buses Southern Africa, effective1 August 2021.

Maretha Gerber holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing, and her experience in the company spans over two decades. In 2000 she was appointed as a Key Accounts Manager, and she went on to occupy various management positions in the fields of Sales, Dealer Network and Marketing. What attributed to her flourishing career is her business acumen, which she displayed in 2016 when she became the Dealer Principal for the Mercedes-Benz Rosebank Dealership. In 2018, she added to the South African list of successful and influential women in transport when she assumed her responsibility as the Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Southern Africa.

Ziyad Gaba is a graduate from the University of the Witwatersrand; he has an Honours degree and a certificate in Road Transport Management. He started his career as a Graduate Trainee in 2004 at Mercedes-Benz South Africa, which led to a promotion as the Regional Sales Manager for Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles. With over16 years wealth of experience and a proven record of accomplishment in the company, he continued to fulfil several managerial positions in the company. In 2014, he accepted the position of National Sales Manager for FUSO Trucks and Parts Sales, which paved the way for him to be appointed as the Head of FUSO Trucks Southern Africa.

“I can confirm that this new set-up has our customer’s best interest at heart. Both Maretha and Ziyad are seasoned industry leaders and they have an in-depth knowledge of DTBSA and our markets. Their new roles create excellent opportunities to accelerate the growth and sustainability of the company, giving us the framework we need to continue prioritizing the diverse needs of our customers. We look forward to their invaluable contribution in shaping the future of DTBSA and we wish them success in their new endeavors,” comments Michael Dietz, President and CEO of Daimler Trucks & Buses Southern Africa.
